Somethings just don't expire...Stupid being one of them...

*****Firstly- I will point out that this one is a doozy in length...but shortened, just doesn't quite express the level of "DUH" I am looking to get across ;-) ENJOY!!*****

We all learn how/what to use 9-1-1 for growing up. Right around the same time when learning your phone number and address was a homework assignment. When you were told to *STERN MOTHERLY VOICE*, "Don't answer the door for strangers!"...Right?! Yes...in the before time- when you could count your age on ONE hand! I remember being told how to use 9-1-1 as clearly as having my tonsils out...airway obstructing, pain caused necessity. NOT just for the treat of unlimited fruity flavored Popsicle's. *SIGH*

"Man Down"- The Finale!

Miracles can happen. Believe that to your very core! Not naively...with hope but understanding that it might not be time for your miracle, but elsewhere- it IS time for someone else's.

"Man Down"...Part Two

"WOOOOOOOOooooooo.....", The ALS siren dies out as they jolt to a stop on-scene. Every movement appearing delayed and mechanical from the Rave effect produced by the Strobes; the Red & Amber's flashing like the pounding of a deep, heavy base.

Hello, 9-1-1?? Yes, I'm too lazy to walk to my car....

It's unfortunate that it seems every year, the age of those using 9-1-1: routinely, as if using a phone version of Goolge, gets younger and younger. Since entering in to the world of EMS, I transport more people younger than me than traumatic injuries. AND- for things that, for lack of a better term- are seeking attention as a child would while throwing a temper tantrum. This one, barely a few years in to their 20's, already plays the system and wins...expect tonight.

"Man Down"...Part One

We hear this a lot. The default Chief Complaint for the ones called in by that citizen who just flew passed someone (or what looks like someone, that may or may not turn out to be a garbage bag or lump of wet blankets) while driving by. BUT! Not concerning enough to actually STOP THEIR CAR. So begins the story of our Marathon Running Smoker.

Spot light tag...

Night shift...good ol' night shift. Always SO much more fun! Less traffic...Less people. More city to freely play in....

"One of these things is NOT like the other one!"

There are things in our field that can be mistaken for other ailments and diagnosed medical problems. However, in the world of BLS...there are very few. Today, we had the priveledge of experiencing a "foot in mouth" kind of moment with the EMT's Blue...

"She-Ra" and the Chinese Dragon

It's amazing how people who you would least expect can become the strongest and most angry patients in the back of our bus. There are some illegal substances (like Sherm) that also bring out the inner Hulk. In this case however, the Hulk was a she....and we found out that she was NOT a big fan of myself OR my moving buddy, "Halo". And boy did she let it show!

If they look like a Zombie...they're probably dead

There are those calls where we roll in and the patient looks like this. Then- things seem to find their way in to the grey area that somehow exists between "Sick" vs. "Not Sick"...ALS turned BLS. We call this: "Treating with diesel." Pedal under your foot with a purpose. The last thing we want is an episode of The Walking Dead in the back of our rig. Definitely not enough room for the entire AMC camera crew ;-)

Silly Ambulance Games

After a while, we all fall in to the routine of our work and things just drag. Monotonous. Dull. Boring. All words not usually associated with what we do...and on nights, usually far from the norm. One night...my partner had an idea. To this day- still by far, the most entertaining...E-V-E-R! Even though it took a few months for him to accomplish it...it WAS worth it!
